Are you afraid of what could happen in the future?
Many of us desperately want to have peace and hope for what lies ahead, but struggle with anxiety about the unknown and all its possible outcomes.
The unknown is the gap between what we know and what we don’t know. Often, we try to fill this gap with possible scenarios that lead us into a downward spiral of negative thinking.
This I Know: Trusting Your Unknown Future To A Known God by Laura Dingman, is a 6-week Bible Study that will help you entrust all the unknowns to a God truly known.
When we think through the long list of unknowns, it’s hard to understand why we would choose to dwell in the unknown when we worship a God who has made Himself known.
Each week starts off with an introduction that outlines a major truth about knowing God. Then you work through five daily lessons, digging into scripture about what we do know about God.
When we dwell in the downward spiral, allowing it to shape how we view our reality, we’ve left out God, thinking He’s nowhere to be found. We end up dwelling on the things we don’t know and can’t know. We’ve chosen to focus on the unknown, which breeds fear, instead of on what we do know.
Dingman uses word studies that really helped me understand the Bible passages in a deeper way. She explains the two Greek definitions of the word knowledge. Gnosis is factual knowledge and the things we know about. Epignosis is experiential knowledge, the things we truly know.
This study is meant to lead you into experiential knowledge as you meditate on scripture, learn the context and meaning of words in verses, pray and reflect.
As we grow in our gnosis—our factual knowledge of God—it should lead us to this epignosis—true experiential knowledge of God.
This really resonated with me, because don’t we all want to experience and grow deeper in our relationship with God, rather than just knowing about God? The times I experience the truth of who God is in my life, are the times the roots of my faith grow deeper.
Every time I sat down to do this Bible study, I felt like I was internalizing the lessons in a deep way that helped ease my anxiety.
Every lesson ends with a Linger, Learn, and Live section with questions that help you meditate on scripture and apply them to your life. A prayer and journal prompt conclude each lesson.
I loved everything about this study, including the look and layout. It will leave you having a deeper understanding of who God is and help you experience his great love for you.
I received a free copy of this book from Moody Publishers in exchange for my honest review.
Hi Valerie! This book’s title reminds me of the quote from Corrie Ten Boom, “Never fear and unknown future with a known God.” When I heard it years ago, it was timely encouragement. It sounds like this study takes a deeper dive on the topic. Your review has me intrigued. Thank you!
That’s one of my favorite quotes, Joy. This was a deeper dive into that subject and I really enjoyed it!
This looks like a good one Valerie! Thanks for the recommendation.
Trusting God with the hard things is, well…hard! I think we all can use a little help in this department. 🙂
I loved this study Rachel!
There is something transformative when it comes to experiencing God, Valerie. There is a hunger in my heart to know, and to connect with Him. I want my life to glorify Him as I transition in life to glorify my Savior. I am cautiously excited about my next book. It has been an interesting experience as I’m committed to being an author full-time. Once I share the book title with the world, I hope to reach out to you about being a part of my launch team. I hope you have a fantastic weekend and may God continue to bless you and your family in the New Year.
When we begin to experience the realness of God in our every day lives our faith is lived out in a transforming way. Horace, I would be honored to be on your launch team for your next book. I’ve always admired your faith and I pray that the Lord will bless you as you move forward with what the Lord has placed on your heart.
